Highway Division

Duties & Responsibilities

The Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance of the Town's infrastructure such as the following:


  • Public Streets
  • Bridges
  • Dams
Maintenance includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Snow and Ice removal
  • Potholes
  • Guardrail & Fencing
  • Cracksealing
  • Milling and resurfacing
  • Trench Paving
  • Tree Trimming and removal
  • Sidewalks and Curbing
  • Catch Basin Repair
  • Street Sweeping (Stormwater) 
  • Catch Basin Cleaning (Stormwater)
  • Culvert Repair (Stormwater)
  • Removing roadside litter and brush
  • Maintaining traffic markings
  • Street signs and Traffic Control
  • Road Openings
  • And more

Ashland Department of Public Works and the Ashland Police Department collaborate to set up a Traffic counter device on various streets over the year. This device records speeds of vehicles and number of vehicles on any given street.

Permits:

Note: NO ROAD OPENING PERMITS WILL BE ISSUED FOR WORK PRIOR TO APRIL 15 OF ANY CALENDAR YEAR, AND NO PERMITS WILL BE ISSUED FOR WORK THAT WILL NOT BE COMPLETE IN FULL BEFORE NOVEMBER 15th.
