Applying for a Marriage License - Please call ahead for an appointment to file your marriage intentions in Ashland.
Both parties applying for a marriage license must appear in person. Both parties must present a valid photo ID with date of birth and correct address when applying. Both parties must be 18 years of age or older. Individuals under 18 must present a court order from a district or probate court. Please note that you may file your marriage intentions in any City or Town clerk's office in the State and be married anywhere in the State of Massachusetts however the record will remain in the city or town where the intentions were filed and also in Vital Records in Boston.
There is a mandatory 3 day waiting period from the date of application before the marriage can be performed. This waiting period can only be waived with a court order. Once approved, the marriage license is valid for 60 days and can be used for a marriage performed in any city or town in Massachusetts. Currently, the fee for issuance of a marriage license and completing the marriage intentions is $40.
Obtaining Copies of a Marriage License
You can obtain certified copies of a marriage license by providing the date of the marriage, the names of the people married, and the $10 fee for each certified copy.
