Town Hall hours:
Please be aware there is a payment box as you exit the parking lot onto Main Street if you would like to leave a check or money order payment (please no cash). Please enclose a note with your payment if you would like a receipt and we will be happy to send you one either by email or US postal mail. The Town uses City Hall Systems for online payments. Responsibilities
The Treasurer/Collector is responsible for the billing, collecting and investing off all Town funds including real estate taxes, personal property taxes, motor vehicle excises, water/sewer bills, as well as a myriad of miscellaneous department services charges, permits, licenses and fees.
The Treasurer/Collector is responsible for the maintenance of all properties taken for nonpayment of taxes and for all public auction or disposition of all foreclosed properties. In addition, administers and arranges for the timely disbursement of all payments to vendors, town employees, and retirees and is responsible for the adminstration of the Towns' debt program. The office strives to provide the highest level of customer service with regard to billing inquires and payments processing.

Requests
Municipal Lien Certificate is a legal document that lists all unpaid taxes as well as assessments and utility charges that remain due or paid on a parcel. The municipality has 10 business days after receiving a request to provide the certificate. The fee for both residential and commercial is $50.00 per parcel. Sewer Betterment releases are $4-$8. Please call to confirm and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Requests for Tax payment information must be submitted in writing to the Treasurer/Collector's Office. Please provide the Name, Address, Bill Number (for Real Estate), Registration Number (for Excise), Account Number (for Utility) and the dates you are requesting the payment information. Information will be returned by phone, email or by mail if a SASE is included. Processing may take up to one week. calendar year info form
Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Update
Fiscal year 2023 Real Estate & Personal Property fourth quarter bills were due on Monday, May 1, 2023 and are now past due. Please click here to pay FY2023 real estate and personal property taxes as soon as possible to avoid an additional $30.00 demand fee.
Excise Tax Update
Excise bills are prepared by the Registry of Motor Vehicles according to the information listed on the motor vehicle registration and then sent to the town assessors who commit them to the tax collector for distribution and collection. The rate of excise is $25.00 per one thousand dollars of valuation.
Motor vehicle excise taxes for calendar year 2023 were due Thursday, March 30, 2023 and are now past due. Please pay as soon as possible to avoid an additional $30.00 demand fee. Please contact the Treasurer/Collector's Office at 508-881-0100 x 2016 with your license plate number if you do not receive a bill. Please note if your car was registered after January 1st you will receive a prorated bill in a future billing cycle.

*Please be aware if you mailed your excise payment using the envelope included with your bill it was mailed directly to our lockbox vendor and there is approximately a two-week delay in processing payments. Please send all past due payments directly to the Ashland Town Hall address listed above. Real estate tax payments not received in the Treasurer/Collector's Office by 4 p.m. on the due date (7 p.m. on a Wednesday) will be subject to interest penalty at the rate of 14% per year, daily basis, from the due date until payment is made. Motor vehicle excise tax interest penalty is at the rate of 12% per annum. If you use your bank's "online payment," please be aware that the town is actually sent a check. It may take up to two weeks for the Treasurer/Collector's Office to receive the check from your bank.
