Naloxone (also known as Narcan®): In an overdose, opioids can slow breathing to the point of death. Naloxone blocks the opioids and restores normal breathing when it is sprayed into the nose of someone who has overdosed. It is safe, easy to administer, and has no potential for abuse.
The Ashland Board of Health, in conjunction with the Metrowest Health Foundation, has quantities of Narcan available for residents in need at no cost. Please contact the Board of Health at 508-881-0100 x 7128 for further information.
