Water / Irrigation Meter Replacement Program
The Town of Ashland, Water Department is replacing water meters for residential and small business customers during the next several months. The Town of Ashland, Water Department owns the meters and electronic reading devices and will need entry to each property to replace the meter.
Water meters mechanically measure the water after it enters your property and the water moves through the device. The meter is usually located where the water service connects to a building, usually in the basement on the wall closest to the street. An automated meter reading device, or AMR, is connected to the meter. The AMR is a radio transmitter powered by a battery. As the meter reading truck passes by the building on the street, a data-collecting device records the meter reading transmitted from the AMR. This reading is much more accurate.
The current meters and electronic reading devices were installed many years ago and need to be read manually.
The project will benefit single family homes, dwellings and small businesses in Ashland. The Meter replacement is of no cost to property owners and replacement to the new meter will avoid erratic readings and incorrect billings.
A meter service technician will visit your property to remove the water utility’s old meter and replace it. The Town of Ashland Water Department notifies Ashland residents to call (508) 532-7951 Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or email dpw@ashlandmass.com and we can then make an appointment to have the meter replaced.
The Meter replacement appointment can be scheduled from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm at your convenience and it only takes 20 - 30 minutes. The meter technician temporarily turns off the water, installs the new meter and takes the old device, and turns the water back on.
